Sacrifice

The current Beta v0.111.0 Sacrifice formula, Osty Max HP interaction, upgrade, and timing risks for the Necrobinder in Slay the Spire 2.

Quick answer

In Beta v0.111.0, Sacrifice is a Retain Rare Necrobinder Skill costing 1 Energy, or 0 when upgraded. If Osty is alive, he dies and you gain Block equal to three times his Max HP. The v0.110.0 beta raised the multiplier from double to triple; main-branch and older community pages may still show the old formula.

How the triple-Max-HP formula works

Sacrifice uses Osty's maximum HP for the combat, not his current HP. If Summon effects have raised his Max HP to 10, the current beta card grants 30 Block. Osty only needs to be alive when the card is played; he can be at low current HP after absorbing attacks and still produce the full amount.

The card then kills Osty. That removes his ability to absorb incoming attack damage or perform Osty-dependent attacks until he is Summoned again. The Block number is therefore only half of the decision: the other half is the companion value surrendered now and the cost of rebuilding it.

What changed in Beta v0.110.0?

Mega Crit increased Sacrifice's Block from two times Osty's Max HP to three times in Beta v0.110.0. Its Retain keyword and 1(0) Energy cost remain the key timing tools. Retain allows the card to wait for both a large incoming hit and a sufficiently developed Osty rather than forcing a weak conversion on the turn it is drawn.

The default main build and community databases may still list the double-Max-HP text. This page intentionally describes the opt-in v0.110.0 public beta, with the branch stated beside every current value.

When should you actually play it?

The cleanest timing is after Osty has gained Max HP, absorbed useful damage, and reached a point where losing him prevents less damage than Sacrifice blocks. The zero-cost upgrade helps because the conversion can happen without competing for Energy on a defensive turn.

Avoid firing it only because the number looks large. If Osty is about to attack, protect against several future hits, or enable another card, killing him early can reduce total combat value. Check whether Bound Phylactery or another Summon effect can restore him and whether that future setup fits before the next enemy attack.
