Slay the Spire 2 Mechanics

Character guides tell you what to build. These pages explain the rules that make the build work: timing, resource conversion, edge cases and the mistakes that cost runs.

Stars

Stars are Regent's second resource. They carry between turns, and a card with both an Energy and Star cost needs both. Saving Stars is normal; the skill is turning the bank into one decisive damage, Block or Energy turn.

Sovereign Blade & Forge

The first Forge of a combat creates a retained Sovereign Blade and adds that Forge value to its base damage. Later Forge effects grow the existing Blade in every pile; they do not keep creating new copies.

Sly & Active Discard

A Sly card is played for free when an active effect discards it from your hand before turn end. Natural end-of-turn discard and cards lost to hand overflow do not trigger Sly, Tingsha or Tough Bandages.

Osty & Summon

Summon heals and raises living Osty's combat Max HP, or revives him at the Summon amount when dead. Osty absorbs unblocked Attack damage before Necrobinder and can convert his current or Max HP into attacks and defense.

Doom

At the end of an enemy's turn, it dies if current HP is no higher than its Doom. Reaching the threshold is not an immediate kill, so the enemy normally attacks first. Artifact blocks an entire Doom application.

Glass Orbs

Glass is an area-damage Orb that starts at 4 plus Focus, loses one base damage after each passive, and Evokes for twice its current value to every enemy. It wants early cycling, not long storage.

Status & Fuel

The sequel lets Defect use Status cards as a resource. Creation can trigger Orbs or damage, drawing a Status can trigger Iteration, and Compact turns Status cards in hand into zero-cost Fuel. The same Status cannot also be spent by Flak Cannon.
