Relic · Main and beta branches; downside differsDistinguished Cape
Distinguished Cape's Apparition reward, where it appears, and the important downside change between the main and beta branches.
Quick answer
Distinguished Cape is a Vakuu Ancient Relic that adds 3 Apparitions to your deck. On the v0.107.1 main branch it costs 9 Max HP. On the current beta branch, its downside was swapped with Sere Talon in v0.109.0, so it adds 2 random Curses instead. Check your branch before evaluating the trade.
| Source | Vakuu, Act 3 |
|---|---|
| Reward | Add 3 Apparitions |
| Main-branch cost | Lose 9 Max HP |
| Beta-branch cost | Add 2 random Curses |
What the Apparitions do
Each Apparition is a 1-cost Ethereal Skill that gives 1 Intangible and Exhausts. Intangible reduces each separate hit of HP damage to 1 for the turn, so timing matters more than simply counting the card as ordinary Block.
Three copies can buy several setup turns, protect a slow scaling plan, or cover a dangerous multi-hit turn. The cards also enlarge your deck, and an unplayed Ethereal copy is lost at the end of the turn unless upgraded.
Main branch versus beta branch
On the current default branch, Distinguished Cape loses 9 Max HP when picked up and adds 3 Apparitions. Beta Patch v0.109.0 swapped its downside with Sere Talon: Distinguished Cape instead adds 2 random Curses while keeping the Apparitions.
This is a meaningful strategic difference. The main-branch cost is immediate and predictable; the beta cost preserves Max HP but adds two cards that may interfere with future draws. Guides that omit the branch can therefore recommend the relic for the wrong reason.
When is it worth taking?
The Cape is strongest when a few protected turns let your deck establish scaling or end the fight. Before taking it on main, check whether the Max HP loss leaves enough room for the remaining Act 3 route. On beta, count your existing draw, discard, Exhaust, and card-removal options before accepting two random Curses.
Bing Bong duplicates cards permanently added to the deck, including the Cape's Apparitions. That raises the defensive ceiling but also makes the deck larger, so it is still worth checking how reliably you can draw and spend them.
