Defect Claw Guide: Recursion Before Commitment

Treat the first Claw as an investigation signal, not a build order. Commit when Feral, All for One, Hologram, or another reliable recursion line appears early enough to make repeated zero-cost attacks solve real fights.

The player question

When is Claw worth taking despite its slow early scaling?

The job

What this package is trying to solve

Replay growing zero-cost attacks instead of waiting to draw each copy once per shuffle. The package is useful only when it answers the fight in front of you; it is not a shopping list that overrides the map, enemy intent, or the cards actually offered.

01

Keep early damage and defense while checking for recurrence.

02

Use Feral, Hologram, and All for One to repeat a strong group of zero-cost cards.

03

Make sure Scrape or draw does not throw away the only defensive answer.

04

Keep a backup plan when the recursion package is not assembled by the next combat check.

Build the job, not the label

Cards and relics to recognize

Core cards

Claw · Feral · All for One · Hologram · Reboot

These are the cards that make the package's central action possible.

Support cards

FTL · Beam Cell · Go for the Eyes · Scrape · Turbo

These help the package survive, draw, scale, or bridge into the next fight.

Relics

Power Cell · Music Box · History Course · Shuriken

Relics can change the value of the package, but do not force a plan that cannot solve the next combat.
How a useful turn looks: With Feral, make Claw the first zero-cost Attack of the turn so it returns to hand. Use Hologram and All for One to repeat the same strong cards, not merely to increase cards played.

Commit condition

When should you take more of this?

✓

A recursion piece appears before several Claws are added.

✓

The deck can draw and replay the zero-cost cards in the same fight.

✓

The scaling is fast enough for the next Elite or Boss, not merely impressive in a goldfish turn.

Protect the run

When should you stop forcing it?

Core failure mode: Forcing the meme after one Claw. Without recurrence, the card grows too slowly and Scrape can discard the defense or setup that the run still needs.

↗

Only one Claw is present and no recursion is visible.

↗

The deck is adding zero-cost attacks while losing the ability to Block.

↗

The next fight ends before the scaling catches up.
